Don’t Want Your Private Notes Self-Destruct? Here’s How To Do It

It’s been said that knowledge is power. And when it comes to protecting your private thoughts and observations, this saying couldn’t be more true. But have you ever considered the risk that if you don’t delete a note or passage, it could fall into the wrong hands?

With so many ways to store and share information today, if you’re not careful, everything – and I mean everything – can go public in an instant.

Even the most innocent personal information could be leaked or sold to a third party without your knowing. Take, for instance, a document on which you recorded your measurements and weight loss progress. This data, while not inappropriate in any way, could be used against you if posted to a public forum!

On an even more serious привнот note, some people think nothing of sharing intimate details about their personal life. Things like their sexual identity, political affiliation and even financial status can sometimes be used to embarrass them later on.

When it comes to the social media age, for example, there are many people who would post private information about themselves on their Facebook pages. Their friends and family then engage with them on social media based on those details.

But they might not realize that they’ve left a side effect in their wake – a side effect which could be deadly serious when it comes to protecting your privacy. And what’s worse is that you could also end up sharing this private information as well, while thinking that you’re protecting your own privacy.

How to write a Self-Destruct message:

Choosing the best time

First of all, you need to choose the time when you want to “self-destruct” your private notes. If you write a note at night and then accidentally leave it on your desk for the next morning, it will be deleted – but not necessarily by accident.

Some people might do this habitually – or even on purpose to make their bosses or coworkers suspicious of what they’re up to.

Using the right app

If you do decide on using a special app, however, you need to be careful that no one can know that you’re using it. For this reason, I don’t recommend secret notes or apps – they tend to get out of control easily. Instead, I suggest using the standard Notes app on your iPhone or iPad.

Don’t use a passcode for your note

If it’s a regular note that you haven’t labeled as self-destruct, you can simply write it, turn on the timer and then lock your screen. If you’re writing a secret note, however – or if you want to set the timer secretly – you need to make sure that no one will be able to see how long your timer is set for.
