Oxidation Protection Coatings
Graphite and C/C components which are used in oxidizing atmospheres must be protected against oxygen attack. Schunk applies oxidation protection coatings by CVD processes between 1000°C and 2000°C (1830°F-2630°F). Highly-oriented crystalline layers - mostly multiple SiC layers - are deposited ar low pressure. They are very well suited for oxidation protection. A combination with boron carbide layers leads to a self-healing effect.
