Schunk materials and components in various forms are also utilized in
reactor technology, examples being cut-off spheres in pebble-bed
reactors or limiter plates in fusion reactors, where maximum purity
graphite (e.g. FP 479) is used as an “initial wall” to protect the recipients
against plasma attack.
